Heading home? Time to go souvenir shopping? To find that one gift with the perfect blend of quality, practicality and local vibe, head over to Mauricette. Creators Camille Berenger and Valery Charles have the T-shirt you need.
To make a T-shirt, Mauricette-style, you need that creative spark and a lot of love. The fuel that drives Camille Berenger and Valery Charles, partners at work and in life, is the reason behind their success. The couple met when Camille was on a study internship in Mauritius, three years ago. However, on heading back home, she struggled to find the right gifts.
From that experience, an idea was born. Valery, a graphic designer, would bring to life the ideas of Camille. The perfect canvas for their art: T-shirts. Their creations, which they consider “100% Mauritian, with a little French touch,” honour local expressions and the famed Dodo bird.
From a humble start, the T-shirts can now be bought at 25 outlets around the island. That success has allowed Valery to work full time on the brand’s evolution. “I follow closely the trends to come up with designs that will appeal to both tourists and Mauritians,” he says.
Collections are regularly renewed. And now you can also find bags and pouches made from burlap cloth. Get one, and bring back some of the sun home with you!
