Central Market

A few metres from the Northern Bus Station (Gare du Nord), you would land up at the central market. A historical place loaded with local culture which stands out as a showcase of what the country has to offer in terms of fresh produce, local made garments & textile and handicrafts.

Aapravasi Ghat

Follow in the footsteps of the first coolies (indentured labourers) on the Mauritian soil by visiting the Aapravasi Ghat. A historic site which has immortalized the first steps of the people who have amongst others helped to carve the success of the country. Leap into the past and enjoy the interactive tour of the Museum.

Citadel

Overlooking the capital is the Citadel, also called Fort Adelaide. Built by the British between 1834 and 1840 to defend the island from enemy naval attacks, it is now known for its panoramic view of Port Louis.

Champ-de-Mars

Visit the oldest race course of the southern hemisphere. With a circumference of 1 298 meters, the track of Champ-de-Mars has been graced by the finest of jockeys in the world. Though soccer seems to be the most popular sport in Mauritius, Horse racing is the one which gathers more interest from the islanders.

China Town

A little China in the center of the capital. Discover, by crossing the gigantic and impressive gateway to China Town, the Sino-Mauritian culture in all authenticity and… flavors. Indeed, countless restaurants will make you dizzy with the specialties from the Far East.

SSR Botanical Garden

The oldest garden in the southern hemisphere, the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden has been designed by the famous French Navigator Pierre Poivre. Stroll down the aisles to admire giant water lilies and other endemic plants.

Notre-Dame Auxiliatrice

Found at the entrance of Cap Malheureux in the North of the island, the Notre Dame Church is a place you need to visit, at least for the peaceful atmosphere and the wonderful people around.

Rivulet Estuary/Bird Sanctuary

Spread over an area of 26 hectares, the Bird Sanctuary is the transit ground for over 1,200 species of migratory birds every year. Managed by the State, you can observe the birds during the migration period (between October and April), and with some luck, you might see the little green heron.

Le Black River Gorges National Park

The largest endemic Park of Mauritius holds plenty of surprises. Ideal for picnics or hikes alongside the monkeys. Open during weekdays from 7 to 16 hours and on weekends from 9:00 to 17:00.

Chamarel – Seven Coloured Earth

One of the landmarks of Mauritius: Chamarel and its seven coloured earth. An extraordinary scene which would certainly leave a long lasting impression.

Macondé

The viewpoint of Macondé is one of the most picturesque places of the island. Located in the South-East of Mauritius, this place offers a 360° view of both sea and land features.

Gris Gris

At the southern tip of the island, Gris Gris is famous for its view point, rocks and cliff. With some luck, you will might see a few whales pass by.

Le Souffleur

The South hosts many gems of the natural heritage of the country. One of the favorite spots of the locals and tourists is the narrow natural bridge carved out of the volcanic rocks by the waves.

Rochester Falls

The Rochester Falls in the South of the island flows between Souillac and St. Aubin. After a muddy walk – depending on the season – in the fields you would come across the 10 meter falls.

Tamarind Falls

With its eleven waterfalls, Tamarind falls is a place to visit for nature lovers.

GRSE Waterfall

One of the places of attraction you should absolutely not miss, is the peaceful haven of Grand River South East East. Whether by boat or kayak, the waterfall can be admired closely.

Trou aux Cerfs

The crater of now dormant volcano is one of the main features of the town of Curepipe. Filled with vegetation, it is one of the favorite tracks for joggers.

Le Morne

Rising 555 metres above the sea level, Le Morne mountain is classified as a world heritage by Unesco. At the top of the mountain, lies the Grand Cross, filled with mysteries.

Le Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire

With its height rising up to 828 meters, Le Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire is the highest mountain of the island. Located in the national park of Black River, it takes approximately 2 hours for seasoned climbers to reach the peak.

L’île aux Cerfs

Travelling from one island to another has never been as simple. Catch a boat at Trou-D’eau-Douce and after a 10 mins trip, land on one of the best beaches in the world at the l’île aux Cerfs. Also renowned for its exceptional golf course and local barbecue.

L’îlot Gabriel

Gabriel Island, located close to Grand Baie, offers a unique picnic experience cut off from the world.

L’île aux Bénitiers

A true gem found on the Southwest coast of Mauritius. Swim alongside the dolphins, enjoy the crystal clear sea, sipping fresh coconut water.
